Il sito ufficiale di Peter Gabriel informa che l’album, originariamente reso disponibile come picture disc solamente per il Record Store Day del 2019, sarà rilasciato il prossimo 12 giugno, in formato digitale e vinile.
Il CD viene fornito in un pacchetto digi-pack, mentre l’LP è in vinile nero pesante, con busta interna stampata e include un codice download ad alta risoluzione. L’LP è stato masterizzato a metà velocità da Matt Colton al Metropolis Mastering.
Negli Stati Uniti il vinile è stato stampato da Record Technology Inc, mentre il vinile per il resto del mondo è stato stampato da Optimal.
Avendo sempre amato la combinazione di film e musica (all’età di 17 anni ha lasciato la scuola di cinema per perseguire una carriera nella musica), la prima opportunità di Peter Gabriel di combinare questi interessi gemelli è arrivata quando gli è stato chiesto di creare la musica per il film di Alan Parker Birdy nel 1985. Altri lavori cinematografici, inclusa la sua musica per The Last Temptation of Christ di Martin Scorsese (che divenne l’album Passion) e la colonna sonora del film Rabbit-Proof Fence (La Generazione Rubata) di Philip Noyce (pubblicato come l’album Long Walk Home), hanno continuato a nutrire quell’interesse.
“Ho sempre amato il cinema e mi sono tuffato in ogni possibilità che mi sia stata offerta di lavorare con buoni progetti cinematografici e buoni registi. Questa è una miscela di canzoni che sono state scritte per film specifici e canzoni esistenti che hanno trovato un posto appropriato in una storia. Di conseguenza, c’è un mix di stili e stati d’animo diversi. ” – Peter Gabriel
Oltre a colonne sonore più lunghe, Peter Gabriel ha regolarmente contribuito con canzoni a un corposo numero di film e Rated PG esplora quest’altra connessione creata da Peter tra la sua musica e i film.
PG Rated è un’opportunità per riunire per la prima volta una selezione di brani scritti appositamente per il cinema o utilizzati nei film e include versioni nuove e inedite, brani altrimenti non disponibili e una traccia nuova di zecca.
